Health Wonk Review for March 12, 2014

Mud Season Edition

We couldn’t help but smile as we read Brad Wright’s explanation of the “Mud Season” theme for this week’s edition of Health Wonk Review, hosted by Brad over at Wright on Health:

For now, though, it’s mud season. All of the snow that has blanketed the ground since December has finally melted–quickly–leading to a sloppy mess. To be frank, the world of health policy is not that different.

Things can change quickly, and they can certainly get messy. Thus, this mud season edition of the Health Wonk Review is presented with the understanding that while things might be a bit of a mess right now, there is hope on the horizon.

Amen, Brad.

And here’s a light sprinkle of what’s in Brad’s health policy “weather report”:

  • Is ACA’s open enrollment period the equivalent of monsoon season? It doesn’t have to be, according to Louise Norris.
  • Jonena Relth is a much-needed ray of sunshine with her own optimistic forecast about prospects for the nation’s health care system.

Of course, there’s much more in Brad’s report … and we thank him for doing a great job of breaking down the current conditions, serving up a compelling forecast and smiling into the camera all the while.

Next up: Chris Fleming will host Health Wonk Review on March 27 over at Health Affairs Blog
