Michael Johnson is the former director of public policy at Blue Shield of California (2003 – 2015). He is currently waging a campaign to force the nonprofit health plan to provide greater community benefit.
Prior to working for Blue Shield, Michael served as a public affairs and communications consultant, which included work on numerous California ballot initiative campaigns. He also served briefly in state government, as an external affairs officer for the California Department of Insurance. After graduating from Harvard in 1986, Michael spent several years working for consumer advocacy groups.
